Here's a short article in the NY Times about the upheaval in Ivory Coast over the most recent election. It seems like they are getting closer to getting it right but still have to manage violence and corruption. This article gives good background info that ties in well with what we've been studying most recently.
This problem of rigged or faulty elections is common in newer democracies around the world. Maybe a good solution would be the creation of a full proof system, with newer technology for voting and strict standards on when particular votes are due. It seems that something like that would greatly help new democracies who are having trouble with rebel groups influencing the elections in negative ways
